In the premises of Mandir of Sai Nath at Shirdi there are many mandirs, a park and tombs also.

In those tombs, there was one tomb of Shri V. Padmanabha Iyer. He was a Sugar Technologist, a SAI BABA’s devotee. His wife and children were staying in Lucknow. He was working in a sugar factory.

In 1943-44, Iyer could not get a job. Six of his children were studying. He had no worries about not getting a job.

His idea was that everything would be provided by SAI BABA. In 1944, he got a job in Lakshmi Wadi near Kopargaon. ‘See the Grace of SAI BABA. He brought me near to him’ Iyer was saying.

He used to go to Shirdi from Lakshmi Wadi whenever he found time. He used to take part in Aratis. Iyer was forgetting himself whenever he was in Samadhi Mandir.

Several times other devotees used to remind him that he should go to Lakshmi Wadi.

That day was May 26th, 1945. Completed work at Lakhmi Wadi. He was to go to Lucknow with his two sons who had come there.

To have the Darshan of SAI BABA for the last time, they went to Shirdi in the evening. Iyer was resting in the Samadhi Mandir at a pole. He was meditating on SAI BABA while closing his eyes. Tears were rolling down from his eyes. He did not know what was happening around him.

Others present there tried to speak to him. He got consciousness at 9 PM with utmost difficulty.

In the early hours of 27th May he woke up his sons informed them that he was not feeling well. Doctor immediately came there and declared that he was suffering with Cholera.

Iyer wanted a SAI BABA’s photograph. When they gave the photograph, he put the photograph on his heart and breathed his last while saying SAI BABA.

Everybody were praising that Iyer was a great devotee of Baba. Other devotees met the Sansthan People and got permissions to build a tomb there itself

There was no necessity for Iyer to leave Shirdi further.

I won’t be able to go leaving you – says SAI BABA’s devotee.
