One Musician called Abdul Kareem Khan has come to SAI BABA. SAI BABA made him sing some songs for Him.

He sung devotionally Tukaram written ‘Hechi Daan Degaa’ song set to Peelu Melody.

SAI BABA heard that song with very much attention. After completion of the song, SAI BABA said ‘He has sung so beautifully. He prayed with utmost devotion. On listening the song, the prayer would be accepted’.

In the trinity of Musicians, Shyaama Shastri was the elder one. Similar to Thyagaraja as the devotee of Lord Rama, Shyama Shastri was devoted to Goddess Kaamaakshi Devi of Tiruvaayoor in Tanjavoor District.

He worshipped Kaamaakshi both as temple priest & through his songs.

He used to worship Kaamakshi Amma ‘Give me your feet always’ (Satatamu nee pada bhaktinimmu) prayed Kaamaakshi Amma with distress & sorrow.

A scholar in Music in those days Shri Bobbili Keshavayya jee has entered Tanjaavooru by raising his flag on his Musical Instrument, Tampura & challenging the scholars in the field, & after attaining success.

The scholars in the city Tanjavooru have approached Shyaama Shaastri to retain the prestige of the court of the king.

Then Shyaama Shaastry ji sung a song in Chintamani Melody in front of Goddess ‘Devee! Its time to save’ (Devee! Brova Samayamide) & thus defeated Bobbili Keshavayya jee.

In the court of Tanjavooru king, when the rival conferred the Sinhanandini Talam, not only sung the song but created a new taala Sarabha Nandini & sung, thus defeated him & he kept the prestige of King’s court as Laya Brahma Shyaamaa Shaastri ji.

The songs of Shyaama Shaastri ji were not more than two or three hundreds only.

He has written songs in Telugu, Sanskrit & Tamil languages. These were not attracted to many like Tyagaraja’s songs due to them were mixed scholarly things.

In Shyaama Shaastri ji’s songs one could find devotion & presentation of soul in them.

Shyaanaa Shaastri ji’s songs were used to be in one title “Shyaama Krishna Sodaree”. He used to present his distress to Goddess Kaamaakshi.

When his health deteriorated too, he has not taken any medicines, but prayed severally to Goddess Kaamaakshi Devi.

He used to see Jagadambika not as in  Saguna Form, he used to save him from his distress.

Shyaamaa Shaastri ji has married with Ship called Devotion in a Sea Marriage.

Shyaama Shaastri ji’ s is called as Banana Dish (Kadalee Paakam). The ancestors of Shyaama Shaastri ji were from Telugu Areas.

Shyaamaa Shaastri ji has predicted the time of leaving his body. He attained Samadhi on February 6th, 1827.

Today is February 6th. Let us remember him with Kaamaakshi Maa’ song.

‘Mora Vinavaa Durita.. Vikaarini Shree Bruhannayaki’.
