Shri Lakshman Krishanaajee Noolker alias Tatya Saheb has arrived to Shirdi to have the darshan of SAI BABA. SAI BABA blessed him.

SAI BABA showed the pole at Dwaraka Mai to Noolker one morning when he went to have the Darshan and asked him to worship that pole the next day. Noolker went back to his place of stay; Next day was a Saturday and when Noolker woke up could remember that it was Guru Purnima day.

He informed everyone about this. All went to SAI BABA and asked Him for permission to worship Him as Guru on Guru Purnima. With much difficulty they were able to succeed and got his permission to celebrate

The First ever Guru Purnima was celebrated at Shirdi on that Saturday only. This was said because of an evidence in the form of letter which Noolker has written to Nana Saheb Chandorkar.

‘When I woke up on Saturday morning, I remembered the day was Guru Purnima.

Immediately all started the arrangements. Worshiping was permitted by SAI BABA after His return from Bhiksha. SAI BABA was quite did not object and allowed to worship him by following 16 types of rituals. After completion of puja he gave back the entire Dakshina to all present there. Dada Bhat sent a message to Radhakrihna Ayi that Puja and Arati were being performed. She sent the puja materials. Nana also had come with his Puja Material.’ – Thus wrote Noolker to Nana Chandorker.

 it was not known when in which month and in which year that letter was written. But Noolker visited Shirdi for the first time in 1909. He passed away in 1911.

Shri M. B. Nimbalkar has written in his writings that Gavanker told him that Noolker reached Shirdi first time in 1908 and as such Guru Purnima was celebrated in 1908 itself.

First Gurupurnima thus could have celebrated in Shirdi either in 1908 or in 1909 or in 1910.

The Guru Purnima in 1908 was on July 13th – Monday.

The Guru Purnima in 1909 was on July 3rd – Saturday.

The Guru Purnima in 1910 was on July 22nd – Friday.

As per letter of Noolker to Nana Chandorker, Saturday happened to be in 1909 only.

The first ever Guru Purnima was thus held at Shirdi on 1909 July 3rd. SAI BABA made it to happen on that day.
