In Shri Sai Satcharita written by Hemad Pant there was a mention of Nama Deva.
Bhishma included the abhangas of Namadeva in his Aarti songs. The Abhangams of Nama Deva’s 61 Shabdas (Abhangams) find place in the holy scripture of Sikhs Guru Granth Saheb. Jnaneswar and Nama Dev while doing pilgrimage reached Kolayat Village. Both were extremely thirsty.
One well was there but there was no bucket. But there was water in the well. Through His Yoga Shakti Jnana Deva has acquired micro-shape and entered the well and fulfilled his thirst and came back.
He asked Nama Deva also to do the same. ‘Panduranga! Your devotees were suffering from Thirst Prabhoo, why were you keeping quite. Fulfill their Thirst’ Nama Dev prayed to Lord Panduranga.
Spring of water has come out from the well, Nama Dev and others fulfilled their thirst with the water. Jnaneswar while embracing Nama Dev praised him that he was a true devotee. SAIBABA too has given Biggest Importance to Devotion than any other path.
Once Parisa Bhagavat’s wife felt unhappy over the poor state of Nama Dev and gave the wife of Nama Dev’s Parasuvedi with a condition that she should return it next day.
On hearing this Nama Dev threw the Parasuvedi in the river. Parissa Bhagavat has come and asked Nama Dev to give him back the Parasuvedi given to him.
Nama Dev went to the River and brought many stones from the river and asked Parissa Bhagavat to take any one stone from them that was interested to him. Parissa Bhagavat tested each and every stone, all the stones happened to be Parusavedis.
Then Parissa Bhagavat could able to understand, Nama Dev with such a Miraculous Powers remained as Poor.
He prostrated before Namadev to give him the Bhiksha of Wisdom and left all the stones in the river.
SAIBABA who has the power to make ordinary man a Maharaja, remained as Fakir.
The Nama Smarana (Remembering the God’s Name) was the non-diminishing wealth to either to Nama Deva or to SAIBABA. Nama Deva was born on October 29th 1270.
Let us read his Abhangams today – to go in devotional Path.
