How to offer service is said in 39th Chapter of Shri Sai Satcharitra.

Those were the days of Guru Arjun Dev the fifth Guru. That time there was a rich man called Tirtha.

There was no limit to his wealth. He heard the teachings of Guru Arjun Dev once.

The discipline followed by those sikh tradition and the langer which offers food to all has influenced him a lot.

Apart from all this, there was peace in the presence of the Guru. One could earn money, but could not buy the peace of mind.

For obtaining peace of mind, he wanted to change himself into Sikh Religion.

That rich man asked Guru Arjum Dev to admit him into the Sikh Religion.

You can either change your religion or become a Sikh but it was difficult to live as a true Sikh said Arjun Dev

He said he would get ready for any difficulties, what he wanted was the feet of Guru Arjun Dev and that was enough to him. This new man was called as Manja.

He left his entire property and has come to Guru Arjun Dev. He used to do many works in langer.

The most difficult one was to go to nearby forest to bring wood for cooking in the langer. He used to take food in the Langer itself.

One day Guru Arjun Dev made Manja to stand before all and asked where did you eat your food. Manja then replied that ‘He would eat at Langer’.

Those present there were astonished when Guru Arjun Dev asked Manja like this.

‘Let me understand your instructions and bless me to follow them accordingly’ Manja told humbly to Guru Arjun Dev.

Manja’s daughter asked him ‘All would take food freely at langer. You left your entire wealth. What is this’ she asked Manja.

‘Guru Deva is testing me’ told Manja. He stopped eating at Langer since then. He procured some more wood from the forest and sell them to get his food.

Like this some days have passed. Manja while coming from the forest  fallen in a step well after procuring the wood on his head. By luck there was not much water in the well.

He has put the wooden bundle on his head and waited for somebody to come to save him.

Then evening arrived and became dark too. Manja has not come from the forest and it was said by the people who were there in langer to Guru Arjun Dev.

All were searched for Manja and finally found  him in the well there and tried to save him.

He told them to wait for a minute and please keep this wooden bundle first out.

They have taken out the wooden bundle first. Afterwards they made Manja to come out of the well.

With much love, even though his cloths were wet, Guru Arjun Dev has embraced Manja.

From then onwards Manja has become Bhai Manja. Date and other particulars were not known. But how the service would be shown by Manja.
